How our Calculator Works
Here’s a quick walkthrough on how our calculator works:
- From Horsepower to Kilowatts: Horsepower and kilowatts are like two different languages, both telling the story of power. Our calculator first translates horsepower to kilowatts, since it’s a more universal language in our calculations. Just remember, 1 Horsepower equals approximately 0.746 Kilowatts! For instance, if your motor power is 10 HP, it would be 10 * 0.746 = 7.46 kW.
- Understanding Full Load Power: The Full Load Power is the total power used by your motor when running at full speed, which we calculate based on your motor rating and efficiency. It’s a bit like the total fuel your car would burn if you drove at maximum speed all the time. For a motor with 85% efficiency, the Full Load Power would be 7.46 * (1 – 0.85) = 1.119 kW.
- Power with VFD: Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) are fantastic devices that control the speed and torque of a motor, leading to more efficient energy use. We calculate the power your motor uses with a VFD based on your motor rating, speed, and efficiency. If your motor speed is at 90% of full speed, the power used by the VFD would be 7.46 * (90 / 100)³ * (1 – 0.85) = 0.815097 kW.
- Spotting the Difference – Power Saving: The magic moment is seeing the difference VFD makes! We calculate your power saving by subtracting the VFD power from the Full Load Power. It’s like finding out how much fuel you save driving at a moderate speed instead of full throttle. In this case, it would be 1.119 – 0.815097 = 0.303903 kW.
- Calculating Daily Power Saving: Now that we know how much power we save, we multiply this by the number of hours your motor operates to get the Daily Power Saving. It’s like knowing how much money you save daily by sticking to a budget. If your motor operates 8 hours a day, you would save 0.303903 * 8 = 2.431224 kWh daily.
- Show Me the Money – Daily Cost Saving: The climax of our journey – the money you save! We calculate this by multiplying your daily power saving with the cost of electricity. Now you know how your efficient practices convert to hard cash savings! If the cost of electricity is ₹7/kWh, you would save 2.431224 * 7 = ₹17.018568 daily.
Using our VFD Energy Savings Calculator isn’t just about numbers and savings – it’s about understanding the impact of your choices. Remember, every little step towards energy efficiency is a leap for our planet!
The calculator provides a good estimate based on typical use cases, but remember that additional factors can lead to even more accurate results. Variables like the speed of your motor (RPM) and whether it’s a single-phase or three-phase motor can affect energy usage. Should you wish to explore these complexities, we recommend consulting with an energy professional or electrician for more tailored advice. Happy calculating!
